Poker was big for Christmas and should be huge for fathers day
The holiday season proved very profitable for many poker product manufacturers. Excalibur Electronics makes several handheld electronic poker games, as well as chips, cards, poker tables and more all under the “World Series of Poker” brand. Shane Samole, the president and CEO of Excalibur Electronics said, “We shipped more than $20 million of poker products at retail for the holiday season and could have doubled it if we had the goods. We also produced and shipped 50,000,000 ‘World Series of Poker’ chips last month and retail buyers are telling us our games were the No. 1 most sought after gift this Christmas.” And the story doesn’t end there.
Excalibur Electronics is bracing for even great sales as Father’s Day approaches. Several national retails chains have increased their poker product orders for dad’s special day. Retailers are gambling that poker will be what dad wants on June 19th. Many large retailers see it as a sure bet.
With Excalibur’s poker line, the hot products continue to be that mix of high tech and traditional. Here’s a short list of some of their biggest sellers:
World Series of Poker Electronic Texas Hold ’Em Handheld ($19.95): This fast-paced handheld electronic game can handle up to seven poker players real or virtual. This palm-sized poker parlor allows you to choose limits, call, or go all in.
World Series of Poker Electronic Texas Hold ‘Em Handheld Deluxe ($29.95): This is a talking device and will give you the odds of winning with the first two cards. It contains the complete rules for the most popular poker games and has a built in glossary of poker terms
World Series of Poker Plug & Play 7-n-1 Casino ($19.95): Just plug this devise into nearly any television and you transform your TV into a virtual casino. Each game is filled with action and lots of sound effects. No set up required and no additional equipment needed. With the 7-n-1 you get: Texas Hold ‘Em; Blackjack; Video Poker; Roulette; Craps; Slots; and the popular Pai Gow Poker.
World Series of Poker 15-n-1 Casino Plug & Play ($ 29.95): More sound effects and more games than the 7-n-1. With the 15-n-1 you get all of the games of the 7-n-1 plus: 5-Card Stud; 7-Card Stud; Baccarat; Caribbean Poker; Let It Ride Stud Poker; Red Dog; Big-6; and Keno.
World Series of Poker Texas Hold ‘Em Plug & Play For Six ($59.95): It comes with 6-controllers. Just plug it into nearly any television and you have professional poker action right in your home. “Hole cards” are shown only on each individual controller, not on the TV screen. Each controller has a slide cover to keep the hole cards private. This plug & play can do all three kinds of Texas Hold ‘Em (Limit, Pot Limit, and No Limit). This game not only has the look and feel of real casino poker, it also sounds like poker. While playing the game you’ll hear poker sounds and a voice offering hints, suggestions and betting odds.
World Series of Poker Shuffling Shoe ($29.95): It’s a 2-in-1 card shuffler and dealer shoe. It’s able to shuffle 2 decks of cards at once and feeds them into a dealing position. It’s battery operated and easy to use.
World Series of Poker Texas Hold ‘Em Oval Folding Tabletop ($69.95): Turn your ordinary card table into WSOP table. With the WSOP logo right on the felt, your poker games will look like the ESPN show. This folding tabletop has 6-player positions and conveniently into one small section.

With the holiday season quickly approaching, friends and spouses of poker players can rest easy with a gift every poker player will certainly use: The Poker Camp’s Final Table weekend getaway seminar. The Final Table seminar, hosted at Jackson Rancheria January 29-30, 2005, focuses on No Limit Texas Hold’em and covers basic and advanced skills and betting strategies. The seminar is a unique two-day weekend getaway that includes lodging, meals, poker workshops, practice, and a tournament with cash prizes. Featured speakers include Antonio “The Magician” Esfandiari, $1.5 million winner of World Poker Tour events and Lee Jones, author of “Winning Low Limit Hold'em” to reveal their winning secrets of poker. Dedicated to the education of poker players, The Poker Camp aims to increase the poker enthusiast’s skills and enjoyment of tournament poker through educational seminars while increasing the opportunity to make it to the final table. “It’s exciting to be able to work with champions such as Antonio Esfandiari and Lee Jones for our debut seminar,” says Dylan Simpson, co-founder of The Poker Camp. “They’ll add a level of enrichment to the seminar that will make it exciting to every participant. And since the first seminar is offered in January at the Jackson Rancheria, a weekend getaway makes the perfect gift idea.” Registration for The Poker Camp's seminar “The Final Table at Jackson Rancheria,” January 29-30, 2005, is now open. The new partnership means people can see Bodog’s odds for a number of WPT events and proposition wagers within Card Player as well as their site.

Press Release: Harrah’s Foundation Pledges $1 Million To Satre Gaming Studies Chair at University
LAS VEGAS, November 17, 2004 – The Harrah’s Foundation has pledged $1 million to the endowment of the Philip G. Satre Chair in Gaming Studies at the University of Nevada, Reno, Harrah’s Entertainment, Inc. (NYSE: HET) announced.
“During his 25-year career with Harrah’s, Phil has had a profound and enduring impact on this company and our industry,” said Gary Loveman, Harrah’s president and chief executive officer. “His vision helped casino gaming grow from its roots in Nevada into a nationwide industry, enjoyed and accepted by tens of millions of Americans. And his leadership propelled Harrah’s from a small casino company into the world’s largest gaming corporation. This endowment is an appropriate, enduring way to recognize his remarkable legacy.”
The Satre Chair will be held by William R. Eadington, Professor of Economics and Director of the Institute for the Study of Gambling and Commercial Gaming at UNR.
“Like Phil, Bill Eadington has been a pioneer in the evolution of the gaming industry,” said Mike Reed, dean of UNR’s College of Business Administration. “Over the past 35 years, his research and analysis have greatly advanced our understanding of gambling, and have helped legitimize casino gaming as an accepted form of entertainment. The endowment of the Satre Chair will allow Bill and his team to further advance their invaluable work, and cement the University’s reputation as the world’s leader in gaming studies.”
Additional individual contributions to the Satre Chair endowment fund were made by: Claudine Williams, chairman of the board of Harrah’s Las Vegas; Steve Wynn, chairman and CEO, Wynn Resorts, Ltd.; Chuck Mathewson, through the Charles N. Mathewson Foundation; Jack Binion, founder of Horseshoe Gaming Holding Corp.; Steve Bollenbach, president and CEO of Hilton Hotels Corp. and chairman of Caesars Entertainment, Inc.; Barron Hilton, chairman of Hilton Hotels; 19 members of Harrah’s senior management team and members of Harrah’s board of directors.
Corporate contributions were made by International Game Technology, Boyd Gaming Corp., Caesars Entertainment, Deutsche Bank Securities, Latham & Watkins, LLP, Mandalay Resort Group, MGM Mirage, Station Casinos, Inc., Southern Wine & Spirits, Tracy Locke and TBC Public Relations.
